“Theology matters because if we get it wrong then our whole life will be wrong.” Joshua Harris shares his journey of why he believes what he believes through personal events and understanding the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. In many ways, I can relate to Harris’ journey. Been there, done that. For most of my life, I played Christian, but it wasn’t what I really believed. I did it because of tradition and I didn’t have a faith of my own. I didn’t think theology was important. I thought believing in Jesus and following the Bible was good enough.
Harris is very transparent in “Dug Down Deep.” He confesses sins that he’d struggled with, admits his wrongful attitudes about church and theology, and is truthful about his short-comings. I appreciate his honesty.
“Dug Down Deep” discusses theology that is basic enough for the new believer yet is a thorough review for the mature Christian. He discusses the doctrines of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, sanctification, the church, as well as other basic and important doctrines of the Christian faith.
I wish I had come across this book earlier when I thought I was a Christian. But then again, I don’t know if it would’ve opened my eyes then. Even before reading this book, I was already on the same journey of realizing how important theology was and how it shapes your perspective.
I highly recommend this book to every Christian.
The copy of Joshua Harris’ “Dug Down Deep” was an advanced reading copy which I received free from Multnomah Books. I was not required to write a review.
Family-friendliness: 3/5 Although he isn’t explicit, there may be some subject matter that may be age-inappropriate.
Theology: 5/5
Overall: 5/5

Lets hope Josh Harris is more transparent in this book than he has been about his “kissing dating goodbye” book. Sadly Harris was quick to point out the problems he sees with dating but won’t admit the problems his “alternative” has caused.
